AA and US Airways Confirm Merger

American Airlines and US Airways have officially announced merger plans in an $11 billion deal that will create the world’s largest airline.

The merger will see the new carrier operate under the American Airlines name, and will be a member of the Oneworld alliance. The two airlines have said the combined business expects to maintain all hubs and services to all destinations.

More than 6,700 daily flights to 336 destinations in 56 countries will be offered by the new combined airline.

American Airlines shareholders will own 72% and US Airways shareholders 28% of the combined company.
